12 SPRING MAINTENANCE TIPS TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR VOLUMETRIC MIXER

12 SPRING MAINTENANCE TIPS TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR VOLUMETRIC MIXER

As winter draws to a close, it’s time to get those volumetric mixer trucks ready for the months ahead. You may already be aware of various wear issues that may occur due to different reasons.

These happen when the mixer isn’t cleaned on the interior and exterior thoroughly and the mixing elements aren’t calibrated to the proper tolerances. Therefore, it is important to perform regular maintenance to prevent such mistakes, especially now at the onset of spring.

GEAR UP FOR A GREAT SEASON WITH THESE 12 SPRING MAINTENANCE TIPS

The following tips are general recommendations useful in servicing and maintaining a majority of mobile concrete mixers.

However, mixer operators are advised to go through the operation and maintenance manual they received with the mixer before they begin operation. This is because there may be differences between your product recommendations and the tips below. Make sure to follow your manufacturer’s recommendations.

Tip #1. Check to see if the skirtboard rubber is in good condition or needs replacing.

Tip #2. Make sure the belt wiper is tightly placed against the conveyor belt so that it can keep the belt clean.

Tip #3. Check maintenance intervals for all fluids and filters and see if the hydraulic oil needs changing. If it isn’t clean enough, change it with an ISO 46 grade hydraulic oil.

Tip #4. Ensure free movement of the gates by cleaning them.

Tip #5. Remove concrete that’s been accumulating in the auger.

Tip #6. Inspect the lower bearing.

Tip #7. Check the bearing and seal blocks. After that, grease them both.

Tip #8. Get rid of any debris in the water tank.

Tip #9. Fill the water tank and operate the system to ascertain proper function. Can it ensure adequate water flow? The system should max out the water flow meter.

Tip #10. Pour water into the admix system and see if it works properly. After your inspection, flush it with water to eliminate leftover admixture and clean the strainers.

Tip #11. To do this, check the cement output, perform a yield test for each mix and take samples from the yield test for strength and air entrainment.

Tip #12. Use a dipstick to inspect the oil level in the gearbox and overflow plug. Avoid overfilling either of these; make sure the oil level just touches the dipstick base. If you notice a decrease in level, it’s likely to be a leakage since gearboxes aren’t supposed to use oil. Please note: this tip does not apply to ProAll P-model mixers.
